S. Gaugush, Principles Governing the Interpretation of Exercises of Article V Powers, in: 35 The Western Pol. Q. (1982), S. 213 ff. Der Delegierte Col. Mason aus Virginia meinte etwa, dass Amendments vonnöten seien und es wäre "better to provide for them, in an easy, regular and Constitutional way than to trust chance and violence", zitiert nach M. Farrand, The Records of the Federal Convention, Bd. 1, rev.ed. 1937 sowie 1966 (hier zitiert), S. 202.

Although all the recorded words at the Constitution Convention bearing on the subject have since been examined and reexamined for insights which they might cast on the amending process, the subject was not discussed extensively at this gathering.[Fn. 30: Gaugush, Principles Governing the Interpretation of Exercises of Article V Powers, 35 THE WESTERN POL. Q. 213 (1982).] There was a general appreciation, perhaps best expressed by Col. Mason of Virginia, that amendments would certainly be required and that it would "be better to provide for them, in an easy, regular and Constitutional way than to trust to chance and violence." [Fn. 31: 1 M FARRAND, THE RECORDS OF THE FEDERAL CONVENTION 202 (1966).]
